The pace of Division I recruiting is accelerating, reducing the time for prospective students to explore all of their academic options. Many prospective students don't want to give up their "spot" or scholarship offer from a Division I program to take the time to research the student-athlete experience of Division III.
Are you considering all of your academic options? Choosing a college that matches your academic profile is complicated by the pace and pressure of the recruiting process. Make an informed decision that matches your educational and post-graduate desires. Study your passion and embrace the full college experience while playing the sport you love.
With the opportunity to speak directly with coaches and current student-athletes about academics, athletics, campus lifestyle, and more -- The D3 Experience provides an opportunity for you to explore the idea of Division III to determine if it is the right fit for you.
Patty Kloidt is in her 16th year as the Head Coach at Hamilton College. A former Division I student-athlete at Penn State University, she has completely adopted the Division III model and philosophy of collegiate athletics.
Her coaching career began at Amherst College while earning a Masters Degree at Smith College. She came to Hamilton after coaching four years of soccer and lacrosse at Le Moyne College where she lead the newly created Division I lacrosse program to its first ever MAAC Conference Championship and a birth in the 16 team, 2002 NCAA Division I tournament.
Kloidt took over the Hamilton College program in 2003 and has amassed a record of 190-76 in 15 seasons on College Hill. Along with five straight Liberty League Championships ('07-'11), she lead Hamilton to win its first ever NCAA Division III National Championship in 2008 and has taken Hamilton to three NCAA Final Fours (08-10). Kloidt is a four- time Empire Region and Liberty League Conference Coach of the year. She was named the NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year in 2008. In 2017, The Continentals finished the year with an overall record of 12-6 and tied for first in the NESCAC conference standings with an 8-2 record. The Hamilton women played in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship and ended up at No. 14 in the final Top 20 coaches poll of the year.
The success of the Hamilton program is deeply founded on the philosophy of Division III athletics. Kloidt encourages her student-athletes to study abroad, play a second sport and engage in the numerous clubs or activities on campus. The beauty of Division III is the student can completely immerse herself into the life of the college and play the sport she loves.
Kloidt's philosophy is one where lacrosse is co-curricular as a healthy addition to the academic curriculum within the small college setting. Numerous life lessons are learned in the “lacrosse classroom” of our Division III coaches, many of whom she has invited to join you in The D3 Experience. Our coaching staff includes wonderful mentors who develop student-athletes in many facets of sport including leadership, effective communication, accountability and compassion for others. All great qualities to enjoy a well- rounded life.
